About Sammy, how hospitals work with us, e-prescribing and patient data. If yours isn’t here, write to support@sammy.health.
Sammy
What is Sammy?
Sammy is an electronic health record (EHR) for hospitals, built on its own proprietary clinical AI engine. It covers the emergency department and the inpatient unit in one record: registration, triage, orders, the medication administration record, notes, prescriptions, disposition and handoff.
Who uses Sammy?
Hospitals and health systems in the United States. Inside them, Sammy is used by physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, registration and unit staff. It is not offered to patients or consumers.
Does Sammy’s AI make clinical decisions?
No. Sammy listens, drafts and suggests: fields from a conversation, orders, a note with its sources. A clinician reviews and accepts every suggestion. Nothing is ordered, documented or prescribed until a clinician does it.
Can we bring our history from our current EHR?
Yes. Sammy brings in the hospital’s history from its previous system, so the chart opens with the patient’s past visits, medications and allergies. Sammy also connects to labs, imaging and other systems over standard interfaces (HL7 v2 and FHIR R4), and a hospital can export its full record.
Working with us
How is Sammy sold?
Sammy is licensed to each hospital or health system under an agreement written for that hospital. It includes implementation, interfaces, training and support. Patients and pharmacies never pay us.
How do we get started?
Tell us about your hospital on the contact page. Someone from the team that builds Sammy will set up a walkthrough on your own workflows, then a plan for your move.
How do we get support?
Email support@sammy.health. Hospitals running Sammy also have a direct line to the team for their go-live and day-to-day operation.
E-prescribing
Does Sammy send prescriptions electronically?
Yes. Prescribers write prescriptions in the patient’s chart and Sammy sends them electronically to the patient’s pharmacy through a certified e-prescribing network. How e-prescribing works in Sammy.
Who chooses the medication?
The prescriber, always. Sammy never substitutes a drug, and no one pays to promote a medication in Sammy.
Who chooses the pharmacy?
The patient. The prescriber asks where they want to pick it up and sends it there: any retail, independent or mail-order pharmacy. Sammy starts with the pharmacy the patient chose at an earlier visit and never picks one for them.
Can Sammy prescribe controlled substances?
Yes, as electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS). The prescriber’s identity is verified before they can sign one, and each controlled-substance prescription is marked ready to sign on its own and signed with two-factor authentication, as the DEA requires. Sammy also shows whether the state prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) has been checked.
Can anyone pay to influence prescriptions in Sammy?
No. No drug manufacturer, pharmacy or pharmacy benefit manager pays us to influence what is prescribed or where it is filled, and Sammy shows no drug advertising.
Patient data
Is Sammy HIPAA compliant?
Yes. We sign a business associate agreement with every hospital before any patient data arrives. How Sammy protects patient data.
Where is patient data kept?
Each hospital gets its own deployment of Sammy, so its patients’ records are never mixed with another hospital’s. Every chart access is audited.
How is my information used if I contact you?
To reply to you and follow up about Sammy. Please don’t include patient information in a message. The privacy policy has the details.
